I saw your comment today on Remarkablogger and hopped right on over here. I too am a boomer and I will not go quietly into the night.
Please do NOT get offended by what I am going to tell you.
II subscribe to over fifty blogs on my reader that I read almost every day. Your content is not the problem. Your website sucks. sorry babe, that’s just how it is.
Your divisions are out of line, twitter and the other widgets block my view, the page does not view good on any of my monitors, I have to use the scroll key. I like your graphics, bur they are in the wrong places, wrong sizes and the whole page takes too f___ing long to load. There is way too much script and the CSS, well I have seen much better. I am not trying to be a bitch, okay so I am, in a way; I have however learned just a few things from the courses I have taken and the sites I watch.
I included my website, it’s a wordpress theme and I don’t even like that.It still loads too slow in my opinion. You can check out the blog roll on there and see some that I have built. Please don’t take them as canon, I am still leaning, but I can give you a few facts.
!.Everything above the fold. The first sight your readers see is the most important, a lot of people won’t scroll down a page. I will if its something that really interests me or someone I like….a lot.
2. Don’t ever, for any reason have something that obscures your text, people will just go somewhere else.
3. a lot of people still have slow browsers, I don’t I have the fasted available in my area, but still your page loads lousy for me. someone with a slower connection, like my in-laws who have dial-up, would never even bother.
$. Kepep your graphics files as small as possible to get you what you need, the larger, like a jpeg that hasn’t been resized taked god awfully long to load and takes up way too much space.
You have a great idea going here, if you have to, use a wordpress theme a lot of them are free.
I am subscribing to your feed, I want to see how it goes, good luck and best

No need to worry about hurting my feelings. I always want to improve both the content and the look of this blog. If you look at it, you will wee that I have already made some small changes — made the content column a bit narrower so it lines up better; took out a the dark color behind my logo ( I think it looks cleaner this way) and I’ll keep checking back at your comment for ideas.
Thanks
FYI, Mike…if you can get them to subscribe to the RSS, you’ll get them hooked. Your articles come through much better on the reader, I can read everything without cursing those four damned icons on the left side of the page. Don’t give up, blogs are hard. I am currently working in Fireworks, not allowed to hand code or use Dreamweaver, and am close to throwing my poor innocent ‘puter against the wall. Your page does look a little better on my husbands laptop, but he has a wide screen monitor that has resolutions high enough it makes my 1024×768 look like the friggin basement from hell. Most of my stuff I do with the thought, “yeh my in-laws live in the Blackhills, dial up on a good day and my kids live in the back woods of Maine where 54bps dial up is a miracle, my son in Japan has a ship board email more than half the time, oh and my other son (the programmer) uses apple mobile aps a lot. It depends on your audience and who you want to reach. Get them to subscribe and you will own them, hook line and sinker. I like the crispness of the redesigned logo. I like dark colors, alot. It’s my downfall, my herion, my alcohol. Hit me with a dark sexy site and I am dribbling on my monitor watching for updates, however that is not good for the general public or any kind of commercial value. so I have been repeatedly told, so your new logo really looks good from a readers point of view and the navigation strip stands out more.
