I’m writing this at 2 am on vacation on Lake Superior. If it doesn’t make sense, let me know, I will come back to it.
Rule Six – Flexibility in all things, even in flexibility
Adding two little words to rules can make all the difference in the world. Rules of Thumb – heuristics. Maybe si, maybe no.
This is to hold a rule lightly, use it in the circumstance where it fits. Your don’t have to cut off your nose because you have spited a rule or take someone else’s butt when they break one.
Before you get all freaked out by the term “psychological flexibility” below, it just means to lighten up, to give your brain a break. Paradoxically, when you are able to back off from doing what your mind tells you to do, it’s almost like surfing a wave that wants you to wipe out.
Psychological Flexibility, like physical flexibility, is important for all things mental. In short, the more psychological flexible you are, the more likely you are to figure out what works for moving you toward where you want to go in life.
There are no set rules to practicing psychological flexibility. If there were, then that would not be very flexible. The whole idea is to stay loose. However, this is staying loose with a mission; and the mission is your life. What you want it to stand for in the end when someone needs to write something about you for a eulogy or a tombstone. — via The Psychological Flexibility Blog
Breathe, slow down, observe. Your load may seem lighter. Remember, you don’t have to make a rule out of this, trust your experience.
