I am enamored by the Thesis Theme created by Chris Pearson. Enamored, but not an expert.
Always looking for ways to tinker with my theme (and often getting myself in trouble in the process), I rely heavily on the DIYThemes user forum. On the other hand, I am also alway on the lookout for tips and tricks for modification and sometimes just “prettying up” my theme. Thesis is the first theme I have run into that is so user modifiable that it is actually exciting to use. I wanted to share with my readers some of the places I have found on the web that offer tutorials and new ideas for Thesis.
1. How to Make My Blog
Howtomakemyblog.com has a multitude of tutorials related to both tweaking and dressing up the looks and functionality of your blog’s theme.
2. Thesis Hacker
The name speaks for itself. Self-described as “athe place to come for important tutorials that are easy to follow and understand, all geared to get you tweaking your Thesis theme to your liking.” Tutorials for avatar design, header changes, even ways to change your comments boxes.
3. DoubleMule
“Half as Smart. Twice as Stubborn.” DoubleMule is offers a great tutorial on SEO for Thesis. I began using it and could immediately see I had a ton to learn.
4. Kristarella
Okay, just know that when you go to Kristarella’s site, it is a photography site. Scroll down, you will find some great, easy to follow tutorials on Thesis; best of all, she has a video tutorial on how to use Firebug to diagnose what is happening on screen and also to see how other people have coded their designs — it’s truly informative.
5. Berchman.com
Berchman.com has a tutorial on how to make multiple custom pages in the Thesis Theme. I haven’t perused this one much yet, but take a look and let me know what you think.
5.5. Shatterboxx
Shatterboxx is here mostly because I think it is a great example of how wonderful a Thesis Theme can look. I love this blog and site. Colors are wonderful and it is visually powerful.
So there are five point five Thesis customization sites for starters.
Are there times when this them makes me crazy. Absolutely. I see that as part of the creative learning curve. Stay tuned to my blog as I DIY my way into trouble or glory!
Blogging is one of This Old Brain’s owner’s methods of brain exercise. I don’t know about you, but blogging is what I love to do (even when racking my brain about what to write about. The Thesis Theme will allow you to be as creative (or not creative – It will stand alone, too) as you like with your blog. Thesis can help you turn you blog into a website, or you can create a website using the Thesis theme. It has truly blurred the lines between blogging and websites.
So, if you haven’t puchased your theme yet, click on any of the Thesis ads here or below. What you are still sitting there? Do this. You will be glad you did!
Your Turn
If you have Thesis, how are you using it?
If you don’t use Thesis, what questions do you have?
If you know of any other Thesis Customization tips, please let me know
If there is some way I can help, let me know.

I have ZERO knowledge of html, css or any other of the coding languages. But I was able to design a website for our Concierge Association using Thesis. I have not done any customization on the site, because it is not my personal site. But I intend to switch my 2 blogs from Cutline & Neoclassical (2 other Chris Pearson themes) to Thesis by the end of the month.
Clarabela — did you check out the other comment from The Mules — they suggested taking a look at another site — http://diyninjas.com/neoclassical-thesis-live-and-free/ The Thesis community is nothing if not helpful. Thanks.
Mike, thanks for the mention – the earlier comment made us think to submit another site (not ours).
http://diyninjas.com/neoclassical-thesis-live-and...
The DIYNinjas duo regularly contributes to the Thesis community, the site is a nice example of a customization, and as a bonus for Clarabela… they offer a free Neoclassical skin that lies on top of the Thesis framework – pretty smooth.
Thanks for your comment. I passed diyninjas on to clarabela.
Thanks for linking to me Mike!
Thesis is great as a WP theme first of all, but also for the whole community around it. That's how I got all the help needed for the tweaks I have on my blog.
You have a ton of things on your site. I haven’t yet been able to check them all out. My love/hate relationship with Thesis continues. I love it because it is so flexible and it drives me crazy because I know so little about coding and such. I keep plugging away.
Check out my site. I'm using Thesis in the one-column format:
http://www.mixedmetaphor.net
First single column I have seen on Thesis. I like the font and the layout.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention
http://www.ThesisGallery.com.
This is a great way to see the capabilities of Thesis Them
This is a Thesis Showcase Gallery of customizations submitted by the Thesis using community. There are currently two hundred customizations in the gallery.
We are currently adding 5-10 sites/week.
Hi there, I just bought thesis last night, and i'm quite taken with it already, tho i had to turn off gravatars and smilies because they were HUGE and the support forums didn't help me… so if you want to toss me the answer to that question, feel free lol… anyway, i enjoyed your article, and definitely will go to that last place for custom design! so thanks!
Hi Elaine, Thanks for writing. Are you still having trouble with gravatars? If you are, is it on your admin page ore on the site itself?
