How We Feel With Our Brains

Brain Fitness?  Brain Change?  and Emotional Health?

Smart guy.  David Brooks has always impressed me as a smart guy.  I was taken by an article he wrote some time back for the NY Times,  The Neural Buddhists.  I connected to it for a couple of reasons.

First, David Brooks is a conservative.  He is also a reasonable man, and his opinions are always well-thought out, unlike religious psycho conservatives such as Palin and Limbaugh.

Second, I am about as atheist as one can be.  I’m not one of the pissed off atheists like Dawkins (The God Delusion) or Hitchens (God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything).  I also do my best to be reasonable and lean more toward spiritual atheism, a term I picked up from Sam Harris (The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason).

So, wherever Mr. Brooks comes from, I think we match at a few of the important points.

You will get all of these listening to David Brooks interview Antonio Damasio.  Their conversation centers on the brain as not only our thinking center, but also our emotional center.

Especially good – The gambling experiment. Check it out.
