Brain: Greatest Hits

This Old Brain: Greater Hits

My brain exercise is reading,  I probably read a hundred blog posts a day. I was reading one of the blogs on my list, Remarkablogger, and he said something that I have been thinking about a lot since I got ill -

There will be days when you don’t care about your stupid blog. There will be days when you don’t care about lifting a finger to do anything “efficient” or “productive.” There will be days when Twitter and Facebook look like a bunch of chattering monkeys and you couldn’t care less. There will be days you can’t really be bothered to answer your email, even if it’s “important.”Suck it up and do it, anyway.

Believe it or not, it happens.  For quite a while, I knocked myself out writing a post everyday. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to do coming up with something new every day.

And my little brain revolted. And I noticed I was writing schlock.  One of the things Michael Martine suggested was sometimes it is okay to rest on your (very limited) laurels and publish a list of posts that have been popular.

So here are a few of mine.

Mindfulness Tames the Wild Brain

Mindfulness has been noted to actually grow new brain cells and add size to the neocortex.  This post discusses the control that can add to the wild brain.

The Myth of Positive Thinking

The Myth of Positive Thinking 2 — Should You Fire Your Mind?

Trusting a mind that is sometimes not exactly your friend can lead one astray. Our brains develop ruts that it is not possible to positive think our way out of.  I know I rant a lot on the futility of positive thinking.  These are a couple of posts I wrote early on.

What is SuperBrain Yoga?

Super brain yoga is just one of those things that for some reason gets a lot of search activity..  I have been doing it for the past year or so and it does seem to help.

Problems With Both Positive and Negative Thinking

More on positive – and negative – thinking.

They may not focus spicifically on brain improvement, but what the hell.
