What do you do to refresh your memory?
What works best for you?
If you have read a blog about brains, you know that exercise can improve memory. Something you may not know is that all exercise is not equal. So, you know you need a break and you haven’t taken time to exercise in the last day or so. You decide to go to the exercise room and get on the treadmill and work out a few of the brain bugs.
Good idea! But is it the best idea? What might trump the treadmill?
Walking on a treadmill always reminds me of the great Lily Tomlin quote -
“The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.”
Memory Matters – Nature Walks Win
A better solution for revitalizing the brain is to get outside and walk. Find a “nature rich” environment where the scenery is interestiing to look at and the brain benefit may be increased by as much as 20 percent.
Most of us are aware that a quick walk around the block does wonders for the mind. But what a new study reveals is that if you want to come back with your brain power enhanced, the scenery en route really matters. — PsyBlog
You may have experienced this effect yourself, without the measurement, of course. You probably didn’t think, “Wow, I feel 20 percent smarter.”
A Walk in The Garden
You may have, as even Einstein has mentioned, been trying to work out a sticky problem and in a walk in the garden, had it magically appear in that magnificent brain of yours.
Your brain has an almost infinite ability to become a smarter, fitter, more healthy brain. As I have said before, it’s the ultimate use it or lose it organ.
