Six Questions to Ask Yourself About Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea, untreated, according to the Sleep Center at the Hennepin County Medical Center, is as dangerous as having untreated blood pressure.  It can make your brain starve for oxygen, interrupt your sleep and keep you feeling dull and lethargic.

My only expertise on sleep apnea is in being someone who has been diagnosed and treated for it.  Getting it treated is one of many ways to protect brain health and health in general.

Sleep Apnea Questions

  1. Do you snore or wake up with a snort?
  2. Is it difficult to concentrate during the day when you can see no particular reason for it?
  3. Do you feel sleepy even after you think you’ve had enough sleep?
  4. And do you have trouble staying awake?
  5. Does it seem like you sleep but don’t rest?
  6. If you do not sleep alone, does your partner notice either interruptions or that you have “throat clicks” in your breathing?

Brain Fitness May Depend On Your Actions

If you’ve answered yes above, it may be worth getting a doctor’s opinion.  If you are not feeling rested, it may mean that your brain is starving for oxygen while you sleep. This is a chronic problem and treating it is one step in brain fitness and healthy living.
